Get to know members of the NJAJ Women Trial Lawyers Caucus.

Victoria A. Schall is a New Jersey Supreme Court Certified Civil Trial Attorney who has dedicated her life and career to advocacy of the legal rights of the elderly and nursing home residents and accountability for violations of their rights, care, and dignity. She has been litigating nursing home abuse and neglect claims against facilities since 2010.

Long before then, Victoria obtained a certificate in Adult Development and Aging and volunteered in nursing homes, assisted living, and continuing care facilities. In law school, she was a public policy and research intern through the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long Term Care, working on projects such as preservation of the federal regulations of nursing homes and the national publication of “Faces of Neglect.” Upon graduation, she became an Elder Law Staff Attorney at Legal Services of Northern Virginia, handling Elder Fraud and Financial Abuse claims, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security matters, as well as nursing home and assisted living invalid discharge actions.

In 2010, Victoria moved to New Jersey and has litigated and/or tried nursing home, assisted living, continuing care, and group home abuse and neglect claims throughout New Jersey and the Philadelphia region since that time. She is licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and DC.

She is Vice Chair of AAJ's Nursing Home Litigation Group, on National Consumer Voice for Quality Long Term Care's President's Circle of Leaders, NJAJ's Nursing Home Litigation Section Committee, and NJSBA's Medical Malpractice Committee Co-Chair.

Q. What year did you join NJAJ?
A. I joined NJAJ when I moved to New Jersey in 2010.  I was previously practicing in Virginia.

Q. Why did you join NJAJ?
A. I knew of the importance of connection to other plaintiff trial lawyers through my experience with AAJ. I joined AAJ as a law school student in 2005 to join the Nursing Home Litigation Group. Before becoming licensed in New Jersey, I came to Boardwalk Seminars to connect with my AAJ nursing home colleagues, get the best of education, and to meet other attorneys. When I moved to NJ, NJAJ was a natural fit as I already knew of the benefits and it was a chance to be a part of a great organization with a voice in the state.

Q. Why did you become involved in the WTLC?
A. The WTLC was a natural extension of joining NJAJ but also with the benefit of having meaningful connection to the best women plaintiff trial lawyers in the state. There are innate challenges to practicing as a female plaintiff trial lawyer in litigation and in the practice of law of which the inspiring women of the WTLC have always been a solid resource for information and support.

Q. Why did you become a lawyer?
A. I became a lawyer to hold nursing homes and other long term care facilities accountable for injuries sustained by residents. I began volunteering in facilities as a teenager and in college and witnessed a host of issues related to business and care. Following my passion to give a voice to the elderly, I worked in nursing home public policy and then as a legal services attorney, obtaining a full breadth of knowledge as to all potential issues related to both facilities and elder abuse before moving to NJ to become a plaintiff trial lawyer holding facilities accountable.

Q. What do you like to do in your free time?
A. I cherish my time with my family. No matter where we are or what we are doing, nothing beats that time.
