As September has ushered in the fall season and a return to school for many, it is the perfect time for NJAJ to think about strengthening our engagement with law school students. 

NJAJ will attend the Seton Hall University Law School Career Services Boot Camp on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This event is for first-year students. If you are interested in representing NJAJ at this event, send an email to info@nj-justice.org with the subject line Seton Hall Law Boot Camp. 

I have also been in communication with Rutgers Law School – Newark to encourage their students to become student members of NJAJ and also attend Meadowlands Seminar this November. We also have the opportunity to have NJAJ host a panel discussion lunch for students in Newark later this semester, so more details to come on that once a plan is in place.

Engaging with students is crucial because it fosters the next generation of legal professionals, ensuring the continuity and evolution of our field. By starting to build relationships before these students even pass the bar exam, NJAJ members can inspire students to pursue careers in trial law, offering mentorship, practical insights, and professional guidance. I know this firsthand. Our association also provides students with networking opportunities, which can be essential for internships, clerkships, and future employment.

Law students bring fresh perspectives, and their involvement in the NJAJ activities can lead to innovative approaches and ideas. Connecting with students also enhances our profession’s reputation by demonstrating a commitment to education and the development of skilled, ethical attorneys.

Separately, the legislature is back in full swing after their summer recess with both Assembly and Senate committees meeting and considering legislation.
