NJAJ is seeking nominations for our various awards.
Nominations are being sought for the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service, NJAJ’s highest award, the Gold Medal for Distinguished Journalism, the Gerald B. O’Connor Award, the Meyer-Segal Award and the Professionalism Award.
Nominations for all the awards can be made on the NJAJ website by clicking on the specific award.
Nominees will be considered on their own merits. There is no need to orchestrate a campaign with multiple nominations of the same individual.
- The NJAJ Gold Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the law of torts; and advanced the mission of NJAJ to protect the interests of its members and New Jersey's families by working to preserve and strengthen laws for safer products and workplaces, a cleaner environment and quality health care.
- The NJAJ Gold Medal for Distinguished Journalism recognizes excellence in journalism, both print and electronic. The award honors compelling work that illuminates a consumer or legal issue or concern and serves the public interest. The award is presented to a reporter or news organization for an article/broadcast, series, column, profile, interview, trend story or a body of work.
- The Gerald B. O’Connor Award honors the memory of Gerald B. O'Connor, who was an extraordinary trial lawyer who earned the respect of colleagues and adversaries alike for his brilliant skill and professionalism as well as his humanity. The award is presented to veteran current or former NJAJ members who, like Gerald B. O'Connor, have had a stellar legal career and:
- Have exhibited skill as a trial attorney;
- Have exhibited creativity as a trial attorney; and
- Have exhibited professionalism as a trial attorney.
- The Meyer-Segal Award is named for the late Joan Freedman Meyer and Ann Bernice Segal, in honor of their efforts as members of the NJAJ Board of Governors and their foresight to found the Women Litigators’ Luncheon in 1993. The award is presented in recognition of exemplary leadership:
- To the profession;
- To the community;
- To NJAJ; and
- To the mission of the NJAJ Women Trial Lawyers Caucus.
- The Professionalism Award is presented by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. County and specialty bar associations around the state are asked to select their recipient of this award. The criteria for this award are:
- Be noted for outstanding character;
- Have a commitment to the highest ideals of the profession; and
- Have both bar and community involvement.
The deadline for nominations is 5:00 pm, Friday, October 4, 2024.
